Informit: The Source for Online Australasian Information
What is Informit?
Informit is an online service offering a wide range of database and full content publication products that deliver the vast majority of Australasian scholarly research to the education, research and business sectors. Informit is the brand that encompasses RMIT Publishing's online products: Informit Indexes, Informit Plus Text and Informit e-Library. RMIT Publishing is a business unit of RMIT Training, a wholly owned company of RMIT University.
Partnerships and Networks
In providing a broad range of quality, bibliographic Informit Index databases, RMIT Publishing partners with authoritative and reputable organisations including the National Library of Australia, Australian Institute of Family Studies and government departments such as the Attorney-General's Department. Other database providers include the Australian Council for Educational Research, the Australian Institute of Criminology and Australian universities.
To facilitate greater access to full content materials, RMIT Publishing partners with the Copyright Agency Limited (CAL). CAL negotiates permissions with journal publishers to make the full text of articles available via a select range of Informit Plus Text databases.
Recently RMIT Publishing has partnered directly with publishers to commission high quality resources in the form of journals, books, conference proceedings and reports, to be published for Informit Collections.

History of Informit Products
Informit Indexes
Since 1990 RMIT Publishing has offered electronic access to Australian academic content via more than 70 index databases referencing thousands of Australian scholarly journals. A key product is the AUSTROM compilation, so named because it began as a CD-ROM focusing on Australian research. Now offered online, it includes index databases such as CINCH (Australian Criminology database); ARCH (Australian Architecture database) and APAIS (Australian Public Affairs Information Service). The number of Index compilations has grown over the years to encompass most subject areas. Compilation titles include AUSThealth-Online, Agriculture & Natural Resources (Agriculture - Online), Engineering & Applied Science (Engineering - Online) and Aboriginal an Torres Strait Islander (ATSIROM - Online).
Informit Plus Text databases
Since 2000, RMIT Publishing has combined the authoritative bibliographic information of leading Informit Index databases with full text links to thousands of articles from hundreds of leading Australasian journals. In conjunction with the Copyright Agency Limited (CAL), RMIT Publishing has negotiated electronic rights to journal articles from over 800 publications linking to five of our most popular index databases. These products, published as Informit Plus Text databases, include Australian Public Affairs – Full Text (APA-FT); AGIS Plus Text (Attorney-General's Information Service); A+ Education (Australian Education Index) and Meditext (Australasian Medical Index).
Informit Collections (formerly e-Library)
Early in 2005 RMIT Publishing launched the Informit e-Library service providing cover-to-cover access to full text of online journal articles, monographs, textbooks, conference proceedings, research reports, working papers and other literature.
Informit Collections builds on the database publishing strengths developed by RMIT Publishing over the past 15 years. The database of metadata that sits alongside the full text content is accessible to users searching the Informit service. Users are able to browse journals and books, or search for keywords across the entire Informit e-Library collection, within a journal or journal issue.
As an aggregated collection of core Australian and Asia-Pacific full text content, Informit Collections provides easy access for organisations and their members to the latest research as well as a permanent archive of research that can be easily explored online.
